Interpreting an Abstract Art by Ange Doll
One of the major forms of art design in modern art work that emphasizes the idea of exaggerating or simplifying an object or form is called abstract art. It is the kind of art that depicts real forms in a reduced way that only an allusion of the original subject is kept. It doesn't relate to anything external or would look like something. The subject of an abstract work is seen only through the colors and form. Some historians have point an early existence of this design in the cave walls during the Neolithic era.
There are various fantastical abstract works which are most popular including cityscape art, 3D imaginary and landscape art. Abstract art is generally classified as a figurative abstraction that represents things that are not visual based on a spiritual experience, emotion or sound. Modern abstract art has become popular in the early 1900 where it become more popular as it influenced everything from architecture, Interior Design and film.
Since abstract work is a different form of art, interpreting it would take more than just looking at the artwork. It can be an enjoyable task if it is done properly. A great abstract work can affect the viewer's emotions at the first glance. But you should not interpret the piece with the way it looks as the meaning of the creation is not portrayed in the appearance. If you want to interpret what it projects, do not focus on one aspect of the piece but observe it as a whole. Check out if the piece uses colors, textures and shadow very well. Study carefully if these elements are contradicting or complementing each other. Find out what emotions do the art is trying to conjure. These feelings are represented by colors and shapes. If the elements complement each other, it creates a calmer and happier feeling. If it contradicts each other it presents the feeling of strife, fear, hate, turmoil, sadness and anxiety.
Reading the title will also help you to analyze the abstract art from another perspective. Always ask yourself if you thought something about the piece. There are artist who write something that explains a little about the art to the viewer. There are a few of these pieces that don't need an explanation because sometimes it induces different emotions to its viewers. Allow yourself to enjoy the interpretation as you connect the pieces of emotion it evokes and create one simple explanation that would caught someone's attention.
