DAKOTA FANNING to star in EFFIE (Dakota Fanning Viewpoint)

**Dakota Fanning** has signed on to play the title role in _“EFFIE,”_ a period
biopic about the unfortunate marriage between Euphemia “Effie” Gray and the
famed art critic John Ruskin. Effie is the story of one of in nineteenth
century Victorian Britain’s most infamous love-triangles. Fanning plays a
young bride languishing in an abusive loveless marriage; Effie’s husband never
consummated their marriage, because for some reason Ruskin found his young
bride repulsive. Dejected and rejected, abused by her in-laws, rejected by her
husband, poor lovelorn Effie looks for love elsewhere and has an affair with
Ruskin’s protégé, painter John Everett Millais.
Last November, Saoirse Ronan was announced to be taking on the title role
in Emma Thompson's period romantic drama “Effie,” but as is often the case in
long-gestating projects, Ronan, along with co-star Orlando Bloom, have chosen
to drop out of the project. Dakota Fanning was subsequently tapped for the
part vacated by Ronan, and British up and comer Tom Sturridge will replace
Bloom as her love interest.
