ST. PETERSBURG -- Certainly, the Rays had issues on Tuesday.
Rookie starter Matt Moore gave away the chance for his second win, as he
nearly gave away an early six-run lead. They continued their bumbling ways
with two more errors, and both on the same play. And their offense remains a
tapestry of inconsistency.
But as rough as it has been going, the losses mounting along with the
injuries, they were not going to be picky.
The 8-5 win over Toronto ended the Rays' latest two-game skid, improved their
overall mark to 26-18 and gave them a chance, with a win in today's matinee,
to salvage a .500 homestand at 4-4.
Moore was cruising with a 6-0 lead until a fifth-inning meltdown. But home
runs by slumping Carlos Peña, Luke Scott and B.J. Upton and a few key hits
were enough.
Having lost four of six and looking bad in doing so, the Rays got off to a
promising start before 12,307.
They took a 1-0 lead in the second, on Scott's team high-matching eighth home
